ATLANTA – Today, VoteTripling.org, a group dedicated to mobilizing lower-propensity voters through friend-to-friend organizing, announced a $600,000 final-week independent expenditure investment in “polling place vote tripling” to push Georgians to the polls ahead of the January 5 runoff election.

With polling place vote tripling, canvassers stand outside polling places (adhering to legal electioneering requirements) and ask exiting voters to pause and immediately remind three friends to vote. This friend-to-friend voter turnout technique is based on behavioral science research and was the foundation for a $3.5 million independent expenditure campaign during the 2020 general election.

“If you ask people to remind 10 friends to vote, they’ll remind zero,” said Robert Reynolds, Executive Director of VoteTripling.org. “But if you ask them to remind three, they’ll remind three.”

Polling place vote tripling’s efficacy rests in the large volume of voter contacts it produces. Specifically, research finds it can generate 10-fold more voting conversations than Election Day canvassing. While Election Day canvassers typically only talk to four voters an hour, polling place vote tripling volunteers spark dozens of voter contacts each hour.

According to Reynolds, the best moment in any election cycle to ask people to reach out to their friends is right after they vote. “People are glowing after voting, and most are delighted to text their friends. Winning the critical Senate runoff election in Georgia will require high turnout for Democrats, and we’re here to mobilize as many Democrats as possible.”
