Vote Rev (formerly VoteTripling.org) designed and mainstreamed some of the most cost-effective relational turnout programs in the 2020 election

The best way to get someone to vote is to have a friend remind them. Yet the core GOTV messaging during the 2016 election didn’t prompt voters to remind their friends to vote. That’s because at that time, there was no scientifically proven, scalable way to get millions of people to remind their friends to vote. 

Between 2016 and 2020, we used our behavioral innovation process to quickly design several research-backed, scalable friend-to-friend programs. And in 2020, we provided free coaching and training to hundreds of campaigns and voter turnout organizations in the states that mattered most. These relational voting reminders sparked tens of thousands of votes.

    With our democracy on the line, the Biden-Harris campaign and 123 other partners trusted vote tripling tactics, producing an historic 7,000,000 friend-to-friend reminders in the states that mattered most.

    Nonpartisan impact

    Vote Rev Action Fund trained 41 mission-aligned nonpartisan organizations to vote triple using polling place vote tripling (PPVT) and other programs. Our partners produced more than 250,000 friend to friend reminders.

Enduring impact

Designing voter engagement tactics that work is what we do. Because our tactics work, they will be used for years to come.

PPVT is an example of a tactic that works. That’s why organizer after organizer that used PPVT in 2020 brought it with them to Georgia in the 2021 US Senate runoff elections.

We think of our tactics as rocket ships, and our team as booster engines. Booster engines power a rocket ship to escape velocity, the speed at which it exits the atmosphere. Then, the boosters fall back to Earth and the rocket ship continues on its course unaided. 

Once we know a tactic like PPVT is powerful and effective, we quickly ensure that the progressive campaign and mission-aligned nonprofit ecosystems integrate it into GOTV strategy election cycle after cycle without our support.
